Trail Report

January 8, 2018 – First trail report after the recent blizzard. We have been busy packing and grooming trails, updating signs and trimming brush. ITS 84 from Solon to New Portland connection is in great condition. The railroad bed is as good as we have ever seen it. There are two logging operations between North Anson and New Portland on the Magoff Road. They have plowed approximately 1 to 2 miles of the trail. Please use caution in this area. Starks / Anson Municipal trail was groomed today (1/8). This trail could use more snow in some areas, but is in good condition. Please follow signs as this trail was rerouted due to landowner request. Sandy River Club Trail was groomed today (1/8) and is in good condition. Poulin Corner Club Trail was groomed on Saturday (1/6). Grooming operations are on hold pending the predicted warm weather and rain.

January 11, 2018 – Inspected trails today pending the predicted rain event for Friday/Saturday. All trails have been groomed with in the past week and are in exellent condition. Club trail from Anson to Industry / New Vinyard connection was groomed this morning. We will monitor the river Crossing and close if it becomes unsafe.

January 13, 2018 – 10:00 AM 29 degrees:
Central region received heavy rain in the past 24 hours and extraordinary warm temperatures. Inspected Carrabasett River crossing on ITS 84 in North Anson and deemed it in passable at this time. Signs have been posted stating crossing is closed. We will continue to update when crossing becomes passable. Inspected trail at road crossing. Trail base has remained in good condition. Please refrain from riding our system at this time.

January 14, 2018 – Out inspecting trails today after the recent rain. All trails are currently closed at this time due to flooding.

January 18, 2018 – Inspected ITS 84 and bridges, cleared ice from one bridge on 84. Carrabasett River Crossing in North Anson still closed at this time.

January 19, 2018 – Today Larry, Kim and Mike started at 7:00AM placing signs on backers. We inspected and signed alternate ITS 84 from New Portland Hill to Railroad bed in Embden. This alternate uses new Portland and Emden club trails and is approximately 15 miles long. Use caution on alternate trail due to some ice and minor washouts in areas.
We are currently grooming the railroad bed at this time. Very slow going tonight due to people riding the trails after last week’s rain before the trail froze. Many sections we are going over several times to try and get the ruts out. Also on one section of the trail someone drove a vehicle down the trail while it was soft.

Anson/Starks and club trails are passable at this time. We will resume grooming on these sections when we get more snow to work with.
